In the last couple of weeks, we have seen some wildfires popup, which gives us memories of the Smokehouse Creek Fire in February 2024, where over 1 million acres where burned. With an estimated $125 million in losses to ranch infrastructure, fences, barns, corrals, well pump motors and windmills, stocks of hay or feed, and long-term grazing.
In response, the Texas Wagyu Association established the Wildfire Relief Fund to help ease the burden on members of our community who are directly affected by wildfires.
As flames swept through key cattle regions a couple of years ago, many producers faced significant challenges — from lost forage to damaged infrastructure. In the wake of those fires, fellow Wagyu breeders stepped up to collect donated feed and resources to support affected ranchers.
While some feed and supplies were generously donated, the biggest ongoing challenge has been getting those essential resources to where they are needed most. That’s where the Wildfire Relief Fund plays a vital role. The association continues to seek donations to help cover cost of trucking hay and feed to producers in need.
This fund is still active, and tax-deductible gifts are welcome for those who would like to contribute. Donations can be made online or by mail to the Texas Wagyu Association at:
