Hands-on learning, Wagyu innovation, and Texas hospitality kick off the 2026 TWA Conference

The 2026 Texas Wagyu Association Conference officially gets underway with a full day in the field—bringing producers together where it all starts: at the ranch.

On Thursday, May 28th, attendees will travel just northwest of Fort Worth to Bowie, Texas, for The Big Texas Field Day, a free-to-attend event (RVSP required) designed to deliver practical insight, real-world demonstrations, and meaningful connections within the Wagyu industry.

Located just off US 287, the field day will take place near the home of longtime cattleman and TWA Vice President Rusty Morgan, offering a fitting backdrop for a day centered on progress, performance, and partnership.

A Morning Focused on Reproductive Advancement

The day begins with a deep dive into one of the most critical aspects of Wagyu production—genetics and reproduction.

Representatives from Vytelle will lead a session covering advanced reproductive technologies, including OPU (Ovum Pick-Up) and precision breeding strategies. Their approach is centered on reducing uncertainty and helping producers make more informed, data-driven decisions when it comes to herd improvement.

As Wagyu producers continue to push for higher marbling, consistency, and efficiency, tools like these are becoming essential—not optional.

This session will provide attendees with a firsthand look at how modern technology is reshaping breeding programs across the country and around the world.

Lunch & Industry Connections

Midday offers more than just a meal—it’s an opportunity to connect.

Lunch will be generously sponsored by Pearson Livestock Equipment, creating a relaxed setting for producers, vendors, and industry professionals to visit, share ideas, and build relationships that extend far beyond the conference.

In true Texas fashion, it’s just as much about the people as it is the program.

Afternoon with Dr. Ron Gill: Beef Quality Assurance

The afternoon session brings a strong educational component with insights from Ron Gill of Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science.

Dr. Gill will discuss the importance of the Beef Quality Assurance Program (BQA)—a nationally recognized program focused on best practices in cattle care, handling, and production.

For Wagyu producers, where quality is everything, BQA principles play a vital role in ensuring:

  • Proper animal handling
  • Optimal health outcomes
  • Consistent, high-quality beef production

This session reinforces the idea that exceptional beef starts long before harvest—it begins with responsible management and attention to detail at every stage.

Wrapping Up the Day

Following a full day of learning and engagement, attendees will return to Fort Worth for the evening with a Meet & Greet from 6pm-10pm at the Second Rodeo Brewing sponsored by the International Wagyu Corporation, setting the stage for the remainder of The Big Texas Conference.

From cutting-edge reproductive technology to foundational quality assurance practices, the Field Day delivers a well-rounded start to the event—grounded in both innovation and tradition.

Why It Matters for Wagyu Producers

The Big Texas Field Day is more than just a kickoff—it’s a reflection of where the Wagyu industry is headed.

  • Data-driven genetics are shaping the future of herd development
