Building a Legacy of Quality, Care, and Consistency in Wagyu
The Texas Wagyu Association is proud to spotlight the owners of Texas Prime Cattle Company, Daniel and Ashley Squyres, fourth-generation ranchers whose commitment to quality, animal care, and long-term relationships has helped them build a respected name in the Wagyu industry.
Since getting started in Wagyu in 2017, the Squyres family has combined generations of ranching heritage with a thoughtful, hands-on approach that sets their operation apart.
Rooted in Texas Ranching Tradition
The Squyres family’s ranching story dates back to 1948 in DeWitt County, Texas, where their roots in agriculture were first established. As fourth-generation ranchers, Daniel and Ashley carry forward a legacy built on hard work, stewardship, and a deep respect for the land and livestock.
Today, that same foundation continues to guide their Wagyu operation—where tradition meets modern attention to detail.
A Different Kind of Ranch Environment
One of the first things people notice about the Squyres’ ranch is how it feels.
Instead of the typical feedlot setting, their ranch has been intentionally developed to feel more like a park-like environment—clean, calm, and designed with both cattle and caretakers in mind.
This approach isn’t just about appearance—it directly reflects their philosophy of raising cattle in a low-stress, well-managed setting.
Gentle Cattle, Hands-On Care
Daniel and Ashley take a highly hands-on approach with their cattle.
- Cattle are hand-fed daily
- Cattle are halter-broke
- Emphasis is placed on calm, manageable temperaments
The result is a herd known for being exceptionally gentle—so much so that even their 5-year-old grandchild can safely help with feeding.
This level of docility doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the product of consistent interaction, patience, and a genuine commitment to animal care.
Built on Relationships and Repeat Buyers
Quality cattle and consistent management naturally lead to strong customer relationships.
A large portion of the Squyres’ cattle are sold to repeat buyers, a testament to the trust they’ve built within the industry. Buyers know what to expect—reliable genetics, well-managed animals, and a program backed by integrity.
In a market where consistency matters, that reputation goes a long way.
A Family Dedicated to Service
Beyond the ranch, the Squyres family is deeply rooted in service and healthcare.
- Daniel Squyres holds a Master’s degree from Texas A&M University and a doctoral degree from University of Alabama. He serves as a nurse practitioner and hospitalist, working in emergency & hospital settings in 2 different hospitals, and he is licensed to practice medicine across 6 different states.
- Ashley Squyres works in retail with Estée Lauder and Dillard’s, bringing a strong background in customer service and operations.
Their commitment to helping others extends into their family as well. Their three daughters are all in healthcare, continuing the family’s tradition of service.
Together, Daniel and Ashley have been married for 35 years and are proud grandparents to four grandchildren.
A Program Focused on Excellence
At the core of the Squyres’ operation is a simple but powerful philosophy: You can’t always choose the path you walk, but you can choose the way you walk it.
From the way their cattle are handled to the environment they’re raised in, every detail is intentional. Their program reflects a balance of:
- Strong genetics
- Hands-on daily management
- Low-stress handling practices
- Long-term customer relationships
Continuing the Legacy
The Squyres family represents what makes the Wagyu industry special—a blend of heritage, innovation, and genuine care for both cattle and people.
As fourth-generation ranchers, they aren’t just raising cattle—they’re continuing a legacy while setting a standard for the next generation.
