From the casino floors of New Jersey to the cattle pastures of Kentucky, Joe Pettit’s journey into Wagyu has been anything but ordinary. His interest in Wagyu began before his professional career in the Casino Gaming Industry, and over the past 15+ years, that interest has evolved into a full-time commitment to breeding some of the finest Wagyu cattle in the world.
Roots in Wagyu Excellence
Now based in Elkhorn, Kentucky, Joe has built Kentucky Stud Wagyu into a respected name in the industry. His work has reached far beyond the borders of the Bluegrass State, extending across the United States, Australia, and South Africa. This global perspective has helped him sharpen his program and connect with breeders and buyers from around the world.
Building a Platform for Breeders
In 2021, Joe founded Stud Wagyu Auction, a company designed to bridge the gap between ranchers and sale companies. He saw a need for an auction platform that understood the unique challenges and opportunities of the Wagyu industry, and he stepped up to fill it.
Premier Wagyu Auctions
Today, Stud Wagyu Auction manages two of North America’s most premier Wagyu events:
The Big Texas Sale – Held every May (This year at 6:30 PM CT on May 30, 2026) during the Texas Wagyu Association’s Annual General Meeting, this sale in the Fort Worth Stockyards has become a must-attend finale for breeders and buyers alike.
The Wagyu Super – Each October, this high-profile auction takes place at the Bluegrass Stockyards in Lexington, KY, drawing top cattle and genetics from across the industry.
Through these efforts, Joe has not only elevated his own program but also provided a valuable service to the Wagyu community, creating opportunities for breeders and ensuring the marketplace continues to thrive.
