During the 2026 Texas Wagyu Association‘s annual meeting and sale in Fort Worth, American Cattlemen magazine had the opportunity to sit down with Ray Thomas Sr. and Ray Thomas Jr. of Santos Patronos, one of our organization’s valued members. Their story is one of family, faith, and a commitment to building something meaningful in the Wagyu industry.
Santos Patronos operates a diversified business model centered around fullblood Black Wagyu genetics, a lodge and event venue, and a retail beef store in Seguin, Texas. With around 60 mama cows and a focus on quality over quantity, the operation is carefully building its herd with proven genetics and reliable data. Beyond cattle, the family has created multiple revenue streams that keep them connected to both production and the end consumer.
What makes Santos Patronos particularly noteworthy is their deep appreciation for the Texas Wagyu Association and its recent initiatives. Ray Thomas Sr. and Jr. credit the association’s leadership and its partnership with the Australian Wagyu Association as important steps forward for the breed, giving producers like them access to greater data, innovation, and international collaboration.
This podcast article, produced by American Cattlemen magazine, offers an in-depth look at how Santos Patronos is building a sustainable future in Wagyu. Listen to the full episode to hear their journey firsthand and learn how they’re shaping the future of the breed.
